Sample Nonprofit Board Policies and Procedures

Over the years we have received countless emails asking for help on creating various policy manuals. It is important that you use the templates listed below only as a guide. Read everything carefully to make sure what is established as YOUR policy is applicable to your situation as well as legal in your state. While many policies can be somewhat generic and cover all types of nonprofit operations you many need additional policies to address issues that are unique to your organization.

All important policies should be reviewed by legal council before putting them in place. Otherwise, you may be opening yourself as well as your organization and board of directors to potential liabilities that were unintended.
