How Repealing and Replacing the ACA Could Reduce Access to Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Parity Protections

The Affordable Care Act dramatically increased access to treatment for mental illness and substance use disorders in the United States. Repealing and replacing the ACA could curtail those benefits and parity protections that ensure that financial requirements and treatment limitations for mental health and substance use disorder services are comparable to those for medical and surgical benefits in Medicaid and individual health plans.
